The house intends to emphasize the spatial limits between the interior and exterior. In between the wood columns, we are in a position of being in between the outside and the inside, protected by the house, but at the same time outside of it, in the nature. This moment is created more strongly in the interior patio, created by the " hat " structure. I wanted to bring nature to inside of the house.
In that manner, I designed an Engawa that crosses adjacently to the tree and the patio. The tree filters the outside, like a barrier, allowing us to enjoy exterior but still being inside the house perimeter.
The house is imagined as a structure that supports spatial volumes. These volumes are flexible and allow them to be expanded. In this sense, the house is like a living creature, it can grow and adjust to the families necessities.
The housing modules are 4x4 meters, a more human scale, and absorb the structure. The structure itself is composed of columns and pillars with a round profile.
This house proposal is a desire to recreate the idea of structure together with a fixed matrix trying to give the feeling of unpredictable rhythm. The beams and columns are structure, a pattern, but also a generator of architecture.
the structure is made of columns and beams of Inoki wood, typical of Kyoto. Since the modules are placed in between the structure and also intersected by it, it allows the house to have open interstitial spaces where natural wind circulates.
With this concept, the building allows for the possibility of multiplication and expansion. what was once a uni-familiar house, can now became a building that houses many families, or various functions.
